Smt. K. S. Jigalur Arts and Dr. (Smt.) S. M. Sheshgiri Commerce College is the first Women’s Degree College in Dharwad. It was founded in 1986 for a noble cause of  womens education. The mission of the college is "Empower the Woman, Strengthen the Nation" which indicates the upliftment of women through education, which is perceived to be the means for both individual and societal transformation.
                  With the support of enlightened management we have been able to take this institution to great heights in all spheres. The institute has qualified and committed staff. College has received grants under ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ from UGC. During the last ten years we have organised six National and one State level Seminars and many Regional level programmes. Our students have maintained excellent academic performance. The college has made its name by securing excellent results. The pass percentage is above 90%. It is a matter of pride that we have received State level Best NSS Unit award and thrice state level best NSS volunteer award. Our students have brought many laurels   to our college through their performances in various activities. In the last five years our college bagged General Championship trophy in 2012-13 and 2015-16 achieved thrice Runners-up place in the Youth Festival in 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15.
  Our college has provided many sports women who have done well at University, State level and National level. Our college has signed MoU with  GO's and NGO's to provide career guidance, training and placement facilities to the students. To develop the personality of our students fully, our institution has introduced Add-on Courses. Our collage has credit of securing ranks, achievements in Sports, NSS, Cultural activities and extension activities. Institution is fully geared up to face the competition by sustainable efforts in quality enhancement and quality attainment.
