Department of Kannada

• Profile of Department :
  

  The department of Kannada is established in the year 1986. Since its inception, the department has the responsibility of teaching Kannada to all the students of the college as it is a compulsory subject (Basic) for B.A I, II, B.Com I year. Kannada subject is an option for B.A III year.  Apart from teaching basic Kannada, the department has the main responsibility of handling Optional Kannada too. It is very proud to say that the department had the service of great woman writer Dr. Shanta Imrapur, who was a lecturer and later became Principal before she went to Karnatak Univresity, Dharwad as a Professor in 2007. Then Prof Usha B. Kohalli took charge as HoD of  the department till 2016-17. She retired as the In-charge Principal in June 2017. 
  Presently there are two full time teachers appointed by Management. They motivate students to take up Kannada for Competitive exams and also focus more on the reading and writing skills. They also give the tips and techniques to improve Kannada Grammar for competitive exams.
  Every year several programmes like Book talk, Special Lectures and Workshops and extension activities like visiting libraries, Rangayana, great poets house were carried out. The special talks are organized by inviting resource persons like Dr.Basu Bevinagidad, Director, All India Radio Dharwad. Dr.Gurudevi Hulleppanavarmath(Rtd) Senior Faculty of Lingaraj College, Belgaum, Dr.D.M.Hiremath,Rtd Prof of Kannada,KLES's Mrityunjaya Degree College,Dharwad etc. visited the college as Resource Persons and enriched our students knowledge. Our students visited the residence of great poets like Dr.Chennaveera Kanavi, Prof.Malathi Pattanashetty,Dr.Giraddi Govindaraj,Prof.M.M.Kalburgi and have interacted with them. The students & Faculty also visited the KUD Library and  City Central Library,Dharwad.
